AMD on Tuesday said it had amended its wafer supply agreement with GlobalFoundries. Under the terms of the deal the company will keep buying chips from the U.S.-based company till 2021.
While all leading-edge CPUs and GPUs from AMD at 7nm node at beyond will be made by TSMC, GlobalFoundries remains a long-term strategic supplier of wafers processed using its 12 nm process technology. The new agreement sets purchase commitments by AMD and prices by GlobalFoundries.
The statement by AMD reads as follows:
“Today AMD announced it entered into a seventh amendment to its wafer supply agreement with GLOBALFOUNDRIES Inc. (GF). GF continues to be a long-term strategic partner to AMD for the 12nm node and above and the amendment establishes purchase commitments and pricing at 12nm and above for the years 2019 through 2021. The amendment provides AMD full flexibility for wafer purchases from any foundry at the 7nm node and beyond without any one-time payments or royalties.”
